“We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.”

― Anaïs Nin

it would be years before i would have a term to go with it. it would be years before i would start to feel as though i belonged to myself. it would be years before i am able to leave the mask at home instead of carrying it with me everywhere i would go.

it can be very slow brewing. This connection cannot be forced. The drive to find it is fueled by curiosity and a burning desire to be tethered to that which I am drawn to, even if I cannot see clearly in that moment. Of all the things I have done all the places I have been, and people I have met, I return to the abstract to find my center.

i come back to you

(written by Judy Jeub)

I come back to you
into the womb
where breath is taken
by the eternal
Blue Waters
I come back to you
In to the darkness
Where dreams are stolen
By death's venomous call
I come back to you
Into the icy cold
Where life drifts over the dark chasm
Into loveless days
I come back to you
into the grave
Where the molten gold alludes me
into broken days
I come with you, mother,
into the light where our hearts are opened
And meshed together
we become one.

*Poem inspired by the image Wild River Ice. Performed at Open Mic Night at Great River Arts.

Just off the ditches, as if riding the constant wind that blows across that which is farm country, are the ghostly reminders that we cannot escape progress and that which has happened to the family farm.
